Well, I don't mean incompetent - just very good in one area, and thus not really paying attention to other things like... doors, cups of tea, other people walking around.

I can sort of imagine Spock being really unimpressed at first, and then after seeing how Merlin handles himeself in a pinch, I think he'd find him kind of interesting - in a totally annoying way.

Of course, the names would have to be changed.

Arthur: Ensign M'Lin? *looking around waiting room*

M'lin: Here, Lieutenant. *stands, almost falls over chair while being completely distracted by the telepathic hum in the room*

Arthur: *Looking puzzled and vaguely disappointed* Huh, I thought M'lin was a woman's name.

M'Lin: *tips of ears turning dark green, but otherwise completely placid* "Yes, it does bear a superficial resemblance to naming conventions normally associated with female Vulcans, however in this case, it is an old family name harking back to our cultural roots in the mountains of the southern sub-continent."

Arther:*grins* "So you were teased mercilessly about this in school, weren't you?"

M'Lin:*eyes narrowing fractionally, but voice remaining smooth* "Only for the first ten years."
