Sort of? It was more--hold on, I can explain betetr when I"m looking at it. The first time it's mentioned, it's to set up a history of hostility so it wouldn't be a surprise if one or both needed to go to the infirmary.

The second time, Sheppard was getting Rodney the PDA and the infirmary was the one place insecure enough that he figured he could get it without too much trouble. So he and Bates fought, they both got injured enough to need medical assistance, Sheppard was punished by Sumner for fighting, and John got the PDA.
