yeah--TOS never named the head of security, tho he would have had a bridge station, if we're looking retroactively from TNG.
I think Spock gives Uhura the conn in the novel, when he goes to save his parents. But I'm not so sure that makes sense with the chain of command eitehr, tho Uhura did take the conn (well the chair--not the bridge) on TOS now and then if Kevin Riley or Chekov were incapacitated.
What he should have said was "You have the bridge" since she would ahve been ranking oficer on teh bridge if everyone else was of lwoer rank, not "You have the conn" I think--but ADF added so much stuff that made me go WTF? to a lot of those scenes, I didn't pay close attention.
I never thought I knew that much abouy starship operations. I discover DAILY that I retained way more than I thought.
