It was a shock. I honestly cant' think why, unless because Tuvok and B'Elanna were both presented as aliens, so when I thought of them, that's how I categorized, instead of recognizing the ethnic diversity. And I read Tuvok/Paris a few times! So how this never hit me just--I don't even know.
Tuvok was fascinating and I'm peeved they didn't do much more with him. Even as a het writer, I liked reading about his relationship wtih Paris, though now in retrospect, I can't figure out why on earth there wasn't more Chakotay/Tuvok. They had about as combative a relationship as Chakotay/Paris, with added pon farr!
