It's not a *bad* thing, by any means! And it's not that the story itself reminds me of CAH, as much as in both AUs you show the influences of the characters' different histories, rather than trying to make them carbon copies of what we see in the show. This John isn't Lt. Col. Sheppard by any means, except in the ways that he is, and the wonderful thing is that one can nearly, but not quite, see why Agent Sheppard is different and so fucked up, and the tension between what we know he should be like and what we see here is a huge driving force (yes, I *do* have a kink for fucked-up John, which is almost entirely down to your influences...) And that building is not as common as you might think, hence the comparison.
