I love this. It's so much more than a bog-standard AU - you know, Rodney is a (insert profession here) who meets (insert other profession here) John at (insert location here) - your characters are so recognisable from the original show, yet marked by their experiences in the world you've created. And I love that Rodney recognises that John is so fucked up, yet can't do much to help him but watch. It's world-building with attitude. Like CAH, but with more purple hair dye.
