Guidance predisposes the idea that the art of reading requires someone to tell a girl what to read. Girls are told all their lives in every way what about them is not yet perfect. Entering into their reading to explain how they are flawed there too in what they like, or don't like, is anathema. It's a retelling of the weakness of women, right down to the ability to judge what they do and do not want to read. That's not just problematic; that's frightening.
