Ah. See, when I was a kid, and well into graduate school, the dictionary was a book and only a book. No problem taking it to bed with me to read, and no reason to feel geeky about owning one: everyone did.

When we needed the OED, we went to the library. (And we never used it for Scrabble; that way lay madness.)

I suspect this is actually an age thing, which is odd because I tend not to acknowledge that there is an age thing, ever.
