I say to those people: rewatch season 1, and pay attention to the John/Ford scenes. Sorry, but THERE's your good/bad acting comparison.
I think JF does a fantastic, David-Duchovny-style job of getting across a hell of a lot despite a character who's always hiding things. Managing to convey feelings to us while visibly, clearly hiding them from the other characters? That, man, is Acting, with a capital A.
