I have so much love for Emma/Charles, in general and in this fic in particular.
And love that it's so clear that Charles's idealism doesn't come from ignorance or naivety. He's a telepath.
It was no wonder, Emma thought vaguely as Charles pulled free of her grip and reached for her, shifting her up enough to lick a slow trail from the hollow of her throat to press a lingering kiss between her breasts, that he still carried that unaccountable faith in humans. Feather light touches slide up her sides before a thumb ran curiously over one nipple, pleased with her shiver and methodically discovering what else made her shiver and catch her breath and breathe, "Yes, do that, Charles, yes." He'd learned it in a place no one could be anything but honest.
And this, because it's gorgeous and Charles has his own issues, but he's enthusiastic about people, and people are enthusiastic about him.
Also because it calls Erik and Raven out on the fact that (as much as I understand it), their reaction to telepathy is rejection.
And also that Mutant Supremacy is kind of unsustainable-- that you can only be united by being mutants if you're in opposition to another, because telepathy =/= ferrokinesis, because shapeshifting and controlling the weather and pyrokinesis are not the same. There's so much variation, so much change, that what they have in common is that they're all different and, you know, so is everybody else.
And that's leaving aside the other things-- that non-mutants may be able to exceed mutants. You put Tony Stark in the same room as any of the Brotherhood, and he's not a mutant, but he can still do things no-one else can, but on his playingfield.
And if you're going to have that kind of hierarchy, well, what do you do when you're saying "you should never be ashamed of your power, you should be encouraged to be strong, but I will never trust you with it, I will do everything I can to ensure you can never use it on me."
